Duncan is a voice-first capture and reminder app made by Macbeth Labs ("Macbeth Labs", "Duncan", "we", "us"), designed for people with ADHD. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We built Duncan to be calm and low-pressure, and we take the same approach to your data: we collect as little as we can and keep your actual thoughts private.

Voice. When you speak to Duncan, speech-to-text runs on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio is not sent to us or to any third party. Only the resulting text is processed as described below.
To turn a rambling brain-dump into sorted items, the text of your capture is sent to our AI processor (Anthropic) which returns a structured result. For the optional premium read-back voice (Duncan Plus), the text of your sorted items is sent to a voice provider (ElevenLabs) to generate audio. These providers process the text to deliver the feature and do not use your content to train their models on our behalf.
We use a small number of processors to run Duncan. Each receives only what it needs:
Our servers and processors operate in the United States; if you use Duncan from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed there.
To operate and secure the app; to sort, store, sync, and remind you of your items; to deliver your notifications and nudges; to provide and manage subscriptions; to understand and improve the product with content-free analytics; and to comply with law. We do not sell your personal information or use it for cross-app tracking or third-party advertising.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Account → Delete account), which removes your account and associated content from our systems. Backups are purged on a rolling basis. You can also turn off notifications or analytics-relevant features at any time in Settings and your device settings.
Access to your data is protected by per-user database security rules, and data is encrypted in transit. Items you mark private are additionally kept behind Face ID or your device passcode inside the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what each provider can see.
Duncan is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can exercise the core of these in-app (view and delete your content and account) or by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
